USAID has awarded Dimagi and Indian partners RTI International and St. John's Research Institute $500,000 to expand a CommCare pilot that's helping health workers in Bangalore screen women for domestic violence. This support from USAID will expand the pilot (called "Project Soukhya") to auxiliary nurse midwives in eight of Bangalore's maternity hospitals.
The CommCare pilot was initially developed through support from USAID's Development Innovation Ventures' Stage 2 funding, and is being used by nine health workers. The CommCare application helps health workers identify domestic violence survivors and refer them to counselors. Initial results from the pilot showed that CommCare can help health workers better identify survivors of domestic violence and enhance their quality of care.
