Mountain Meadow Wool Company Inc is a textile firm that produces wool in yarn and other finished products. It is a complete full service mill that doesn't buy wool, but partners with local ranchers so that they collect a percentage of wool sold to the consumer, and so that wool is traceable to the ranch where it was grown. They are committed to sustainable and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes, using natural dyes, cleansers, and spinning oil.
In addition to a traditional fiber processing plant, Mountain Meadow Wool is a creative, research-oriented facility to explore the capabilities of wool. They are working on a USDA-SBIR grant to recycle, reduce, and reuse the waste water generated in their washing operation, and other grant opportunities.
Karen Hostetler and Valerie Spanos, the co-owners of Mountain Meadow Wool, started looking for a way to produce locally made yarn and fiber in the area and to preserve local sheep ranches in 2002, although they had not previously worked in the wool industry. After learning about the industry, they opened Mountain Meadow Wool in 2007.
