We present a novel approach to the optical localization of remote sensors. Using a proprietary solution, we are able to determine longitude, latitude and altitude of a randomly placed remote sensor by purely optical means or by a combination of optical and RF communications techniques. Our approach is low-cost, eye-safe, stealthy, and minimizes or eliminates the need for human involvement in the localization process. Further, our approach easily handles hundreds of sensors spread over many miles of difficult terrain. Localization is quick and reliable. Our technology is easily integrated into existing and new designs for remote sensing.

Della Enterprises, Inc. is developing optically-based communications and localization technologies for use with small sensor networks to be used for information gathering in remote and rugged environments. Technologies developed include optical communication up to 1.5Mbps at distances of up to 1500 ft. with capabilities to send and receive data between ground sensors and UAVs. Localization of sensors to within 2 inches is accomplished via purely optical techniques.
