Savi Technology, Inc. has built on its early success as an SBIR participant to become a leading supplier of automatic identification technology (AIT) products and system solutions. The capabilities of the SaviTag, developed in the early 1990's under a Navy SBIR program, have been upgraded to meet the growing needs of customers in the DOD and commercial marketplace. The value of this technology was recognized by Under Secretary of Defense Noel Longemeur, who testified before Congress in March 1996 that: "SaviTag solves a real problem for the DOD. The army has estimated that if an effective way of tracking the location and content of the cargo containers - such as the SaviTag - had existed at the (time of Desert Storm), DOD would have saved roughly $2 billion. That is an enormous savings - far more than our annual SBIR budget."
While active in the SBIR program, Savi Technology won a total of eight awards which collectively contributed to the building of some ten products. The company has been a major supporter of the SBIR program by providing mentoring to other small companies on the value of the SBIR program at industry and government conferences.
In August 1997, Savi Technology was named as the prime contractor for the DOD's five-year, $11 million RFID Procurement; the largest continuing program to apply automatic identification technologies to supply chain and asset management. This comprehensive program will provide timely, accurate information on the location, identity, movement and status of personnel, equipment and materials throughout the Armed Forces. In addition to Savi Technology's RFID products, this contract award validated the company's Savi Asset Manager software, which is used to integrate, configure and manage many different types of AIT data collection devices.
Since July 1997, Savi Technology has been part of the Raytheon TI Systems Company. The Company is recognized as the leader in the AIT industry, and for successfully applying its hardware, software and systems integration expertise to deliver productivity solutions in manufacturing, distribution/warehousing and transportation applications.
