Uniphase is a manufacturing and sales company of optical active components for CATV equipment and telecommunications systems. It is a major company boasting of an overwhelming market share in the world in 980 nm laser diode chips in particular,as well as optical modulators. On January 29, 1999, JDS FITEL Inc of Canada merged with Uniphase Corporation to form JDS Uniphase Corporation. The company headquarters is currently located at the same San Diego site. Incorporated in Delaware, JDS Uniphase will operate headquarters in San Jose and Ottawa. It will trade on the Nasdaq (JDSU) and on the Toronto Stock Exchange (JDU).
