Zumatek has recently completed scanning of 27 volunteers with their 3D breast CT system. An initial cohort of 7 healthy colunteers followed by 20 patients with BIRADS 4/5 suspicious mammograms were scanned successfully on the system. Initial results are very encouraging, showing lesions much more clearly than in corresponding mammograms. Sample clinical cases are provided here. A formal reader study is ongoing at the Medical University of South Carolina and is expected to be completed by end of 2012. Scans were completed with a total procedure time of less than 10 minutes, faster than mammography, and with no compression or handling of the patient breast. Volunteers report strong preference for breast CT over mammography.
