FAYETTEVILLE, AR, February 21, 2012 - SFC Fluidics, LLC, a biomedical company with expertise in microfluidics, has created a readily portable low-pressure liquid chromatograph (LPLC). Branded 'Handy-LC™', the device exemplifies the promise of total device miniaturization. Roughly the size of a small shoebox, Handy-LC can be used anywhere to conduct real-time separation of complex samples. Requiring only microliter sample volumes, Handy-LC is ideal for sample pre-processing for point-of-care (PoC) diagnostics, for quality control during vaccine, antibody or protein manufacture, during pharmaceutical or therapeutic protein R&D, or for environmental analysis, for example. This product will be officially unveiled at Pittcon 2012, and additional product information will be highlighted in a press conference at 10 am on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 (Room 304 EF of the Orange County Convention Center, Orlando, FL).Handy-LC™is the latest in a series of miniaturized diagnostic devices developed by SFC Fluidics® that incorporates the company's patented microfluidic components, ePump® and QuickConnect™(both of which are available as either OEM modules or as standalone components).

The Model 190 ePump® (shown at right) is ideal for use in microfluidics research and provides precise, pulseless flow in the 250 nL/min to 10 μL/min flow rate range. The ePump can be programmed to self-prime, refill, and deliver discrete dispenses of up to 90 μL at a time. ePump®'s dispense volume, footprint, shape, and flow rate can be completely customized to OEM specifications. Stacks of ePumps® can be multiplexed and independently controlled with a small, stackable multichannel control board. The Model AR220 ePump®, another in the company's line of micropumps, allows an animal to be tether-free, and provides the researcher with wireless remote control of the ePump® for highly flexible, more natural in vivo drug-delivery and toxicology research.

Handy-LC™also incorporates QuickConnect™, a self-aligning microfluidic connector from SFC Fluidics that enables snap-together, leak-proof connection of tubing and microfluidic system components. QuickConnect can be used to rapidly and easily connect ePump® to a variety of microfluidic applications and can also be used for snap-in, snap-out microfluidic cartridges or microfluidic connections in OEM devices. Both ePump and QuickConnect can be used with a multitude of off-the-shelf components and also provide the basis upon which our miniaturized analytical and diagnostic platforms are built.

Both ePump® and QuickConnect™are integral components in SFC's line of portable diagnostic instruments.
