A novel, patented material designed to provide stronger, lighter alternatives for parts manufacturing is tapping in to markets the world over.

Touchstone Research Laboratory, Ltd. (Triadelphia, WV), a company pioneering coal-based material development, created C-FOAM®, a carbon foam with exceptionally high tensile strength that can be formed into just about any kind of parts used in applications as varied from sporting goods to automotive.

Once distributed just within the confines of the United States, Touchstone recently opted to provide marketing licenses for its C-FOAM products to partners in NATO-member states and in strategic Asian ally nations.

Adding on to an already innovative product line, Touchstone has introduced the latest iteration of its coal-based technology, called C-STONEā„¢. The C-STONE product is a harder, denser version of C-FOAM, making it useful for aerospace and industrial applications, including furnace floors and helipads.

MDA funded Touchstone in 2004 with a Phase II SBIR contract to develop a composite material for aerospace structures that provide higher strength-to-weight ratios, less corrosion and fatigue, and lower life-cycle costs than other products on the market.

Touchstone is an R&D/ manufacturing company that has specialized in engineering coal-based carbon foams that can be used as strong, lightweight, composite replacement parts for use in the aerospace, industrial, and transportation sectors.
