Forrester Research's Sarah Rotman Epps Describes Disruptive Potential of Wearable Tech

SEATTLE, WA, July 15, 2013 -- Innovega's compact, iOptik™ video eyewear that leverages modern contact lens technology continues to gain recognition as a unique and viable means of delivering rich media to consumers who want easy access to their digital content. On June 25, Sarah Rotman Epps of Forrester Research reported to interviewers from Bloomberg Television's "Street Smart" program the results of a survey of online consumers who described how they would respond to wearable computing technology. The survey results suggest that twelve percent or 21.6 million U.S. consumers would wear video eyewear glasses and four percent, or 7.2 million consumers, would wear contact lenses in order to access their media (courtesy Forrester Research).

"Since we own the foundational patent that protects our use of modern contact lenses to deliver crisp HD/3D media while simultaneously improving normal vision we were naturally excited to hear of these results", stated Steve Willey, Innovega CEO.

"This forecast of 7.2 million consumers who have interest in our architecture represents the 2.5 percent of the population described as 'innovators' in the frequently referenced User Adoption Curve. This consumer segment has the desire and means to be first adopters of our eyewear. We believe they will be ready to invest in our unique iOptik™ wearable system when our strategic partner-customers have finalized their launch plans. These data further suggest that a present global market of at least 20 million users, who are primarily teenagers and young adults, will lead acceptance of our platform and set the stage for later adoption by 'early and late majority' market segments".

Dr. Jerry Legerton, Innovega's Chief Clinical and Regulatory Officer and recognized contact lens expert, added "if Innovega can add 20 to 50 million new contact lens wearers to the existing base of 120 million global wearers, it will do more for the contact lens industry than any other development during the past 25 years. We intend to forge relationships with global lens suppliers as they have much to gain from the acceptance of our innovative display interface".
