Dynasil Corporation of America (NASDAQ: DYSL) today announced that its RMD, Inc. subsidiary has won a Tibbetts Award for its "Model of Excellence" in the Small Business
Innovation Research (SBIR) program. In 2011, the Department of Homeland Security's Domestic Nuclear
Detection Office awarded RMD SBIR contracts totaling $1.5 Million for continued research and development of gamma and neutron radiation detectors capable of detecting or identifying nuclear and radiological materials.

"We are honored to receive this prestigious award recognizing RMD's role in advancing the government's
research and development priorities in next generation gamma-ray and neutron detectors through
technology innovation," said President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Ruggieri. "SBIR has helped to fund the development of several key products including our portable X-ray fluorescence system for lead paint analysis and our nuclear medicine probe designed to identify and locate cancer cells during surgery. The program also has fostered the advance of new technologies such as synthetic crystals for radiation detection applications."

Dr. Kanai Shah, president of RMD, received the Tibbetts Award at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. from
Roland Tibbetts, creator of the SBIR program, for whom the award is named, Karen Mills, Administrator of the Small Business Administration (SBA), and Sean Greene, SBA Associate Administrator. Dr. Shah was accompanied by Rastgo Hawrami and Urmila Shirwadkar, RMD scientists who were instrumental in the development of RMD's gamma and neutron radiation detection research capabilities. The award
acknowledges small businesses and individuals that best promote the mission and goals of the SBIR program and Small Business Technology Transfer.
