AVT Simulation won a $10.17 million delivery order to upgrade helicopter trainers for the U.S. Army.

The order was part of the company's $45.8 million, five-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract to upgrade the U.S. Army Program Executive Office Simulation, Training & Instrumentation Aviation Combined Arms Tactical Trainer Reconnaissance/Attack helicopter trainers.

The upgrade will provide the U.S. Army with the capacity to cost-effectively train pilots and co-pilots on the latest features and capabilities of the fielded aircraft.

"This is a big win for our company," said Robert Abascal, AVT president, in a prepared statement. "Our extensive Apache related experience, gained with our domestic and foreign customers, has helped us position the company to be selected for this upgrade contract."

As part of the order, AVT will design, develop, integrate, test and deliver software and equipment to bring the AVCATT trainer system to fleet physical and functional configurations. It also will develop and implement unmanned aircraft systems training as a new capability for the trainer systems.

Orlando-based AVT Simulation is a modeling and simulation firm that provides engineering services and training solutions to the simulation, training and entertainment markets. The company was named one of the 2013 Florida Companies to Watch and was one of 91 businesses nationwide to be recognized as a top simulation and training company by Military Training Technology and KMI Media.
