Google caused a big stir in device technology when they unveiled "google glass" in promotional videos, and released prototype products to developers for testing and design feedback. While the concept isn't new, it has captured a fair bit of the public imagination because this will be one of the first commercially available "augmented reality" products to be seamlessly integrated with the connectivity of smartphone technology.

Augmented reality is simply the ready availability of information that is outside our sensory awareness -- almost like a "sixth sense". In the case of google glass, through internet access via a bluetooth connection to your smartphone, the user has convenient and hands-free access to all kinds of information from weather reports to train schedules to what time it is, all in a "heads-up" display setting that eliminates the need to consult any other devices manually.

At Ascendant, we have intimate knowledge of the several technological intricacies involved in developing heads-up displays and situational awareness technology. From a deep expertise with video processing, to pico projection, to utilizing the different avenues of connectivity available, our engineers are experts and innovators, providing quality solutions for our clients who demand, expect, and receive the best that current technology can offer. One exciting new project we're working on is for Avegant, where we are designing and developing the technology for their virtual retinal display, a cutting edge technology that we think is a big step on the road to the future of personal visual media. Check out CNET's review of the prototype, and stay up to date via our social media channels to keep in the loop.

Augmented reality, situational awareness, and virtual retinal displays are all exciting technologies with potential applications in a variety of industries including healthcare, facility or manufacturing management, media, military, and a host of others. We're excited to be at the forefront of the development process, and are eager to see our work implemented to great effect in new and creative applications.
