US Microbattery, Inc. was formed as a joint venture between Bipolar Technologies Corp ("BTC") (Provo, UT) and US Nanocorp ("USN") (Farmington, CT) to commercialize technology related to the innovative use of wafer fabrication techniques to manufacture micro power supplies comprised of a wafer fab microbattery and a fuzzy logic battery management system. These two contributing technologies have been shown feasible under significant funding to the companies from SBIR programs sponsored by the Air Force [1], BMDO [2], SOCOM [3], and DARPA [4], resulting in several patents issued and pending [5]. A strategic alliance was formed between the US Microbattery JV, the two universities that had been contributing technology development in wafer fab microbatteries (Brigham Young Univ.. "BYU") and fuzzy logic methods for battery management (Villanova Univ., "VU")
