Uchu Biosensors Inc, spun out of Tufts University, develops a continual health monitoring platform that is mounted on teeth tracks health information through saliva. The platform is able to track acidity, allergens, toxins, and nutritional macromolecules in real time, giving users real time data to prevent tooth decay. This technology enables dentists to make data-driven decisions in managing oral health and tooth decay for each specific patient. The real time information provided through an application can alert users when their teeth are at a high risk of decay and should neutralize acid before permanent damage is caused. Renamed Lura Health andhaving successfully raised xeternal capital, the firm is now (2022) restructured around development of a wireless, intra-oral, tooth-mounted sensors enabling users to track key diagnostics in oral health with saliva. The first product focus will remain on tracking acid to monitor tooth decay but expectation is that future sensors may be able to monitor allergens, electrolytes, hormones and disease markers.
