Acquired by Dupont in April 2015, Taxon Biosciences had been an early stage biotechnology company in the industrial microbiome space - using genomics tools to profile microbial communities in a variety of environmental settings. Developing microbial structures for transformative apps in the agriculture, life sciences, and oil and gas industries, the firm's mission had been defined as leveraging the ability to understand microbial community structure and function to provide solutions to real world problems in markets as diverse as the energy sector and clinical diagnostics. Taxon Biosciences utilized a variety of technologies to explore microbial diversity. The general strategy had been to perform deep diversity profiles of well selected sites. Specific DNA sequences were then identified that correlated with any parameters of interest that characterize the sites such as low molecular weight gas, salinity, etc. Rapid and quantitative assays for these indicator species are then developed for use in large area Bioindicator Surveys.
