Public Profile
Superior Graphite Co. operates two different electrothermal continuous process technologies, which, in turn, provide high value end graphite/carbon products to its customers. In tandem with these technologies is a knowledgeable, flexible work force prepared to provide excellent innovative technical product support services. A sophisticated distribution/agent network complements Superior Graphite Co.'s worldwide direct employees. In both Kentucky, USA, and Sweden, EU, the company operates a proprietary continuous manufacturing process that thermally purifies granular carbon based materials in temperatures typically at 2,500uC. This Statistically Process-Controlled technology is focused to produce a number of distinctly different specialized graphite/carbon materials.
Three R&D facilities:
The High Temperature Research Center in Hopkinsville, Kentucky, USA, focuses research on the thermal purification of carbon and graphite along with the carbo-thermal synthesis of advanced ceramic materials. This R&D facility includes a pilot unit to perform research and development on reactor technology, new raw materials and new products. On-going research is dedicated to extend current technology for the utilization of new sources of carbon with a much higher volatile and sulfur content, under strict environmental compliance.
The Peter R. Carney Technology Center is one of North America's largest research and development centers for carbon and graphite products. It was established in Chicago, Illinois, USA in 1997. Teams of highly qualified scientists and engineers focus on the characterization of carbon and graphite and on the applications of carbon and graphite compounds. The laboratory expertise includes surface characterization of carbons and graphite, and research and development of new materials for coatings, lubricants, oil drilling fluids and electrochemical applications.
The Research Center at Russellville, Arkansas, USA supports the production of ARK graphite electrodes and other extruded and/or heat-treated carbon and graphite products. Additional activities include the development of particle coating technology. Advanced materials processes for lithium ion battery, and oil drilling applications have been developed through the work at this laboratory.
