S34A, Inc. develops products and services that assist Computer forensics labs with their toughest solid state storage forensics problems. Solid-state drives (SSDs) are increasing in popularity, replacing traditional hard disk drives, and proliferating across a wide range of portable consumer devices. Solid-state memories and complex systems have created roadblocks to forensic data recovery and analysis in the law enforcement, national security, and commercial arenas. Although they do have many positives, unfortunately for law enforcement and forensic examiners, traditional forensic approaches used with hard disk drives are inadequate and irrelevant when applied to SSDs given the unique firmware, wear leveling, garbage collection, and TRIM algorithms used by SSDs. S34As current R&D and product development are focused on hardware, software, and service solutions for solid-state drive forensics. The firms specialized expertise can be applied to the forensic analysis of desktop computers, laptops, tablets, smart phones, thumb drives, automotive infotainment systems, sea vessel navigational systems, and a long list of other devices that use solid state memory. Projects in S34As R&D pipeline cover a number of interest areas, ranging from forensic examination triage to the forensics of shingled magnetic recording drives.
