Areas of particular interest include distinct safe patient handling and mobility needs and exploration of the potential use of new, non-traditional assistive devices and ddressing gaps in safe patient handling and mobility education. With Phase II SBIR funding from the NIH, QUA Inc is partnering with the Human Engineering Research Lab at the University of Pittsburgh to refine the prototype design of the “PPAL®”, an innovative bedside commode that resolves transfer difficulties for older adults in need of toileting assistance. The “PPAL® enables adults aging with lower extremity weakness to safely self-toilet, thereby lowering their risk of falling and reducing caregiver
