ATSP Innovations LLC is working on development of polymers (aromatic thermosetting copolyesters) for use in tribological, structural, high temperature, and electronic applications. Aromatic Thermosetting Polyesters (ATSP) demonstrate robustness in severe thermal and mechanical environments and thus can be introduced into many applications with demanding performance and lifetime requirements. As an example, ATSP coatings can be applied to air-conditioning and refrigeration compressor tribological surfaces. Surface treatments/coatings are key to improving wear performance and durability in a wide range of applications. The problems associated with use of liquid lubricants and hard/soft coatings are well known but only modest progress has been achieved, partly due to lack of research on new material systems. ATSP Innovations has been able to produce and test highly effective wear resistant coatings by blending ATSP with Teflon and other tribologically beneficial additives. The main advantages of these polymeric-based coatings are their relatively low cost and simple substrate surface conditioning (i.e., no need for expensive surface preparation before coating).
