In October 2002, what had been Science & Applied Technology was acquired by Alliant Techsystems. Headquartered in Arlington VA but operational in more tha 20 states, Alliant Techsystems Inc. (ATK) was an American aerospace, defense, and sporting goods company . In April 2014, ATK announced that it would spin off its Sporting Group and merge its Aerospace and Defense Groups with Orbital Sciences Corporation - a very active and well known SBIR firm. The spinoff became Vista Outdoor and the merger created Orbital ATK - completed in February 2015.
