Aspen MediSys was spun out of Aduro BioTech, Inc. with the mission of developing Magnetically Energized Thermotherapies for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. With close ties to Aspen Aerogels the firm offers nanoparticles, a cellular ablation device that operates at a size scale typical for drug delivery vehicles. As of December 2011 it was announced that Aspen Medisys, LLC would operate as a subsidiary of Consegna Group Limited (formerly the Helicon Group). A year later it was decided not to exercise their full options but instead to return the asset. The decision was based on the longer than expected development and commercialisation timeframe, higher than expected required investment, and weaker intellectual property position.
