Spun out of the University of Alaska, Aquagga Inc is structured around developing hydrothermal technologies designed to destroy water contaminants such as PFAS (often called "forever chemicals") found in drinking water, landfill leaches, and soil washings. Anchored in the firm's ability to break the carbon-fluorine bonds in PFAS while doing so without incineration, Aquagga's technology is usefully understood as a portable system utilizing hot compressed water that converts PFAS to salts through the hydrothermal alkaline treatment (HALT) process. This system can integrated into existing systems, offering a destruction solution for PFAS remediation byproducts such as ion exchange resin (IXR) still bottoms or reverse osmosis (RO) reject brine. Previously operational in Alaska, the firm now has location and faciities in a mainland location in Tacoma, Washington
