In August 2010, Defense contractor L-3 Communications Holdings Inc. acquired Airborne Technologies, an unmanned aircraft manufacturer. L-3 said the deal was structured as an asset purchase for income tax purposes. Airborne is a prime contractor on production of air-launched unmanned aerial systems for the Defense Department. Airborne Technologies, Inc is focused to using aeronautical engineering expertise to the intelligence, defense, and commercial aerospace communities.
