ACF produces a unique alpha silicon carbide/carbon fiber (a-SiC/C) with superior performance characteristics and can be used as a reinforcing material in metals, such as steel, aluminum, titanium, copper, and associated alloys. Â After the a-SiC/C fiber is incorporated into a metal or ceramic composite the material characteristics of the base material are significantly enhanced. The now reinforced material has a higher strength-to-weight ratio, is more heat resistant (a use temperature of 4,000 degrees F), and is less vulnerable to fatigue, stress, corrosion, impact and even radiation environments.
