The need to identify and track vehicles by US Special Operations Forces has never been more acute because of the engagements in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Global War on Terror. Such capability is needed both for planning and conducting operations involving Special Forces. Special operations forces are carry out a wide variety of intelligence gathering missions which require vehicle identification such as long-term surveillance of suspected terrorist operations in order to plan effective offensive operations. The ability to recognize and track vehicles is crucial to such operations, particularly to understand enemy organizations and locate enemy leadership. dNovus proposes AVID-VFP, a unique solution to provide the needed capability to identify and track vehicles based on previous research and field observation and modern digital processing. In Phase I, dNovus proposes to conduct proof-of-principle testing by collecting data at required ranges and conducting statistical analysis and digital signal processing.
