The proposed non-contact sleep monitor will incorporate a multi-beam ultrasonic sensor to measure displacement, velocity, and acceleration of specific locations on a patient. Data from the battery-powered sensor will be transmitted through a wireless communication link to a laptop computer for analysis and data storage. The monitor will represent a significant improvement over radar-based non-contact sleep monitors. The proposed portable, non-contact sleep monitor will not interfere with patientsÂ’ sleep and will provide a highly accurate diagnostic tool for use in the hospital or at home.
