The overall goal of this project is to develop an electronic performance support system (EPSS) to provide instructional design assistance to users of computer based training (CBT) authoring environments. It emphasizes providing support to course developers who are naive about instructional design methods. To achieve this goal, the following objectives will be addressed: (1) develop a matrix of instructional design methods by authoring decisions/situations; (2) identify the functions, resources, and constraints on the performance of the instructional design/authoring tasks, when conducted by individuals naive to instructional design principles; and (3) develop requirements, specifications, and a prototype of the user interface for the proposed software tools. The proposed software tools will provide instructors with a ready resource for implementing state of the art methods for designing CBT and ADL to maximize trainees depth and speed of comprehension.
