The objective is to develop a precision position measurement system that uses rf direction-finding techniques to locate transmitting antennas to 1mm resolution. This capability will then be used for clinical gait analysis applications. The advantages to be realized include a significant time savings for data analysis, real time motion acquisition and display, higher frame rate acquisition, substantially increased work volumes, full body motion acquisition, and reduced data loss from occlusion. A receiver system, array of antennas, software for acquisition and analysis of data, and validation tests will be developed and demonstrated.Proposed commercial application:Gait analysis techniques with high speed and wide capture areas can be employed in sports medicine and athlete training. Performance enhancement in human body motion using this instrument as a diagnostic tool is feasible.National Institute of Arthritis and Muscoloskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS)
