We will develop of a computer-assisted and computer-administered interview which (1) coversalcohol abuse (or harmful use) and dependence according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual ofMental Disorders versions III, III-R, and IV, and ICD-1O; (2) covers abuse (or harmful use) anddependence on amphetamines, cannabis, cocaine, hallucinogens, inhalants, nicotine, opioids,phencyclidine and sedatives; (3) assesses Antisocial Personality Disorder and Depressive Disorders and,(4) covers medical problems associated with substance use disorders. Also, "Getting Started" and"Reference" manuals are planned. An existing interview, the CIDI-SAM, will be adapted forcomputerization. This C-SAM would: benefit researchers and treatment providers needing immediatescoring of data for treatment decisions; maximize respondent cooperation and reporting of sensitiveinformation; and streamline training.
