The Sunrise project will provide a multi image film recorder (camera) for use with diagnostic ultrasound machines in small radiology departments, using innovative technology to increase efficiency of ultrasound examinations, provide new operational features, produce films of superior image quality, and provide the capability of making economical and high quality films of color or black/white images from the same camera. In a stand alone camera intended for dedicated use with a single ultrasound machine, the Sunrise camera will provide features otherwise furnished only by centralized film recorder systems which cannot be justified in small radiology departments with low patient load. The narrower objective of the Sunrise proiect is to explore the areas which have the highest technical risk which will determine whether the longer term project Is feasible.Commercial ApplicationsRadiology departments with I or 2 ultrasound machines comprise the majority of radiology ultrasound sites and account for a large share of diagnostic ultrasound use. There are over 10,000 such sites. They cannot justify the expensive hard copy systems which provide modern advantages, but they need better exam efficiency, color hard copy, and better image quality which the Sunrise camera will furnish.National Cancer Institute (NCI)
