We will conduct an R&D effort toward developing, field testing, and disseminating a culturally appropriate training package directed at Black parents of potential adolescent alcohol and other drug users. The package would contain the components listed below under commercial applications. The package has the acronym MITS because it will involve Moderated Interactive Training Sessions designed to facilitate finding solutions to alcohol and other drug related problems within parent groups. The MITS package components are to be the tools for successfully conducting MITS groups. Phase 11 involves developing drafts, obtaining systematic feedback through focus groups and other methods, developing prototypes, field testing, final refinement, developing a Phase III plan, and writing a final report for the MITS package and its components.Awardee's statement of the potential commercial applications of the research:To produce training package with the following components-participant manual, handouts, and exercises; facilitator manual; video and audio tapes; workshop services, with workshop manual; evaluation instruments.National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA)
