Information environment analysts employ various tools to perform investigations into threats, narratives, propaganda along with other information environment topics. Currently analysts do not have any means of recording the steps they take during their investigations that show how they came to logical conclusions. The ATC-NY team will develop the Cyber Analyst Notebook (CANO) by customizing and enhancing an existing open-source collaboration suite and adding semi-automated tagging and enhanced searching capabilities to fit the needs of the Navy. These features will allow analysts to upload visualization outputs from other programs and automatically categorize and tag them to provide a streamlined process for recording the notes and observations during their investigations. CANO will be a cloud-based set of tools for keeping track of and archiving screen shots and notes and have the capability to visualize correlation and causality regarding substantial improvement over existing TTPs in social media analysis.
Benefit: CANO will have the ability to automatically read and categorize uploaded screen shots in order to have a more streamlined work flow for faster analyses of Publicly Available Information. This tool will reduce the amount of time analysts spend on investigations by increasing efficiency and improving organization while enabling searching and archiving of notes. CANO is a personalized cloud-based toolset that is designed for analysts of all types. This toolset can be hosted anywhere and use can be shared with the private sector for use on other projects where analysis is required. Commercial sectors and DoD services can benefit from a securely hosted server for analyst archive their research.
