The U.S. Navy’s Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) In-service and Logistics Support (ILS) system is a shore-based tech support capability which provides assistance with hardware and software issues encountered by the fleet. While initially a common system, modifications to ships even withing the same class has led to divergence from the baseline configuration aboard many ships, this has been compounded by differences in operating temps and environmental considerations. These divergences lead to a number of difficulties, not the least of which is that support personnel often require accurate recreation of the deployed system to replicate diagnose problems. Support and supplies tend to be reactionary to problems as they emerge, whereas the Navy would benefit from anticipatory understanding to prevent problems before they arise—a key reason for the broad push into condition based maintenance and diagnostics and Digital Twin technologies. This would allow proactive alerts about issues as they become known and better remote troubleshooting based upon reported data flows and associated irregularities, it would also allow the prepositioning of supplies to better meet fleet demand. Sailors seek reach-back support from ILS personnel who work 24/7 to provide timely guidance to resolve Fleet casualty reports (CASREPS) and get systems operational in challenging environments as quickly as possible. Communication between the Fleet and the ILS team must be robust, ensuring that the ILS specialist is 1) troubleshooting based on the proper baseline, configuration and all pertinent data; and 2) ensuring that any replacement parts are appropriate to the baseline and configuration in question; and 3) the parts are readily available to minimize transportation and ensure timeliness. Given the Navy stakeholder-identified challenge providing timely and appropriate ILS for the AN/SQQ-89 system and variants, Colvin Run Networks Inc. proposes development of a revolutionary method to deliver analytics embedded in workflows–a key capability for rapid deployment and stakeholder adoption. The Colvin Run effort, in partnership with our human factors and ASW subject matter experts, is a specific configuration of the Colvin Run Afforma AI platform, a commercial Machine Learning enabling solution, SHARK BAIT - Shared Historical Anti-Submarine-Warfare Reach-back Knowledge Built on Artificial Intelligence Technology.
