Augmntr proposes a SAIPAN solution of a scalable system capable of running on either a small handheld system or on more capable devices on a large vehicle, craft, or ship. This system architecture utilizes the best mix of commercial and custom software and ruggedized off-the-shelf hardware. By incorporating standard interfaces and data formats, our SAIPAN architecture will provide a functional, cost-effective, and extensible system to meet the needs of the Marines for years to come.
Benefit: We see numerous potential benefit for the technology developed in this activity. There is direct applicability of these technologies into multiple market verticals, both within the DoD and in the broader commercial space. We are fully confident that this capability would apply very well into other sections of the DoD where vehicles are required to avoid various obstacles and explosive threats. A key commercial application would be the adaptation of the SAIPAN technology to the heavy equipment market. As an example, in 2002 there were 243 fatalities in the heavy construction industry in the United States, with associated damages in excess of nearly $1.8B. We firmly believe that the SAIPAN technology could be fully commercialized and support this adjacent industry and result in fatality prevention and cost avoidance.
