Next generation platforms increasingly incorporate cooperative manned-unmanned systems in multiple environments to reduce risk to personnel and increase warfighting capability. As a result, the reliance on sensor fusion and trust in the automated systems is reshaping how operators perform their duties. Tactical decision making now incorporates multiple platforms and dozens of data feeds requiring unique skill sets not required by traditional systems. Due to these factors, it is increasingly critical that operators receive training on operation of manned-unmanned systems to maximize mission effectiveness. C2AAST (Command and Control of Autonomous Aircraft Systems Training) will provide a suite of training solutions which can be applied across the training continuum to address these unique needs. All C2AAST trained students will return to their squadron with a complete fundamental knowledge of multi-domain unmanned operation, data fusion, and tactical decision making. C2AAST will develop unique instructional tools to support defined strategies throughout commercial, federal, and defense markets both military and civilian. C2AAST will benefit any multi-domain data fusion environment where manned-unmanned data fusion and operational interaction operates. This requirement is seen throughout the DoD training programs of multiple Navy platforms, other services, civilian first responders, and commercial proprietors utilizing both manned and unmanned systems.

Benefit:
C2AAST will provide Navy programs with training objectives for the multi-domain data environment, and instructional strategies for manned-unmanned data fusion and tactical teaming. C2AAST will develop unique instructional tools to support defined strategies in multiple domains throughout commercial, federal, and defense markets both military and civilian. Prototype tools will be developed to enhance training in crew resource management, risk management, and trust in automation and then will expand those principles into the manned-unmanned teaming realm.
