As the complexity of warfighting systems increases, adaptive, on-demand squadron level training is required in order to keep pace with the demand for qualified maintainers. Commonly, a qualified maintainer will spend years away from platform while on shore duty allowing skills to decay enough to require significant refresher training before rejoining the fleet. However, maintenance technicians don't receive refresher training, which leaves a gap the operational squadron must reconcile. Alternatively, this gap could be filled with an adaptive learning tool offering an individualized training plan that supports rapid integration into the maintenance department. To enable truly adaptive training, the tool must first: automatically assess trainee knowledge, secondly; automatically generate training tailored to areas of weakness, and lastly; be incorporated into the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) for on-demand training, saving time and improving readiness. The Adaptive Training and Assessment for Aviation Maintainers (ATAAMs) is an adaptive training solution utilizing the Adaptive Perceptual and Cognitive Tutoring System (PACTS). ATAAMs will enable one-on-one adaptive training, assessment and remediation all in lightweight, web-based ATS that functions with the current NMCI infrastructure that resides in every operational maintenance department and work center.

Benefit:
ATAAMs provides maintenance professionals with adaptive and personalized training upon check in to the command ensuring they have required knowledge to perfrom their assigned maintenance tasks accurately and safely. Through continued analysis of trainee performance, fleet maintenance supervisors will be equipped to identify fleet trends and target future training to compensate for common weaknesses. Dedicated ATAAMs utilization will vastly reduce downtime while a sailor re-trains, reduce starin on personnel scheduling, and increase aircraft readiness through trend analysis and targeted training initiatives. ATAAMs can be effectively applied to any military maintenance department as well as commercial airliners with the integration of platform specific technical data.
