Williams-Pyro Inc. proposes to develop a connector design series that drastically improves upon impedance, electromagnetic shielding, survivability, corrosion resistance, and connector diameter relative to cable diameter. The connector series will be designed for cables transmitting various DC and AC power variants, in tandem with communication signals, and will be applicable in scenarios which include highly transient loads. One key metric will be to reduce the connector impedance to micro-ohms.

Benefit:
The technology in a compact, ruggedized, lossless connector has a wide variety of potential commercial applications, in military systems as well as in industrial, automotive, scientific and research fields. Any application where connectors are employed to make electrical junctions, and where the impedance and shielding effectiveness of the connection are important, would benefit from this technology. This is particularly true of connections in power delivery systems where impedance in the connector leads to thermal inefficiencies and undesirable voltage drops.
