We propose an SBIR Phase I effort to develop a JP-8 generator that will provide 500 Watts (net) with the initial goals of a weight of no more than 6.8 kg (15 pounds) in a package that occupies no more than 5 liters (305 cu. in.). This development will combine the respective strengths of the two organizations: the expertise of Columbia University's team in the design of a compact, lightweight, fast-startup ATR-based fuel processor; and the experience of the Gibbard R&D team in the design of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) fuel cell stacks and their integration with the balance of plant, including the fuel processor.
