Fleet technicians are not experts in signal analysis or in radiated noise source identification and reduction techniques. Although the existing TSMS (Total Ship Monitoring System) has significant capability to provide the submarine crew with own-ship radiated noise estimates (RNE), the system is too labor intensive for its operators. The work proposed herein is the first step in a process leading to the development and insertion into the TSMS of a software module, referred to as the TSMS-OA (TSMS Operational Assistant), which will significantly reduce operator workload and provide the submarine Commander with operationally useful and actionable recommendations to reduce own-ship radiated noise vulnerability.
