Projects Unlimited, Inc. (PUI) proposes to conduct a thorough and quantitative feasibility study and analysis to define the design of a new and novel power electronics converter and DC system controller for the V-22 application. PUI intends to make best use of leading edge matured technology as a basis for this investigation and by doing so virtually eliminate risk to the successful completion of this Phase I study. At the completion of the study, PUI shall deliver a thorough and complete final report. PUI proposes to investigate new and novel approaches to thermal, electrical and mechanical designs to reduce weight, total parts count, and cost while increasing reliability. This investigation shall encompass the complete LRU as defined in the referenced detailed procurement specification. At the conclusion of Phase I, PUI will provide the Navy with the complete results of the detailed tasks, studies, analyses and trade-offs made during the course of the investigation. All simulations, test results, methodologies and assumptions shall be included, along with the quantitative conclusions made with supporting rationale. This will provide the Navy not only with a complete unit definition, but the basis for its selection of Phase II/III efforts.

Benefit:
The successful solution to the Navys objectives involves multiple facets including Unit Cost, Weight and Reliability, and System Performance. Potential commercial applications include both new and replacement hardware for aircraft and systems that would traditionally utilize unregulated power converters.
