This Phase I effort will result in the development of a PC based software application which publishes specifications and performs requirements tracing using a relational database management system. Research has shown that none of the current requirements management products reviewed "encompassed all of the systems engineering methodology ... and that "expensive, elaborate toolsets tended to get dropped when the going got tough". The proposal recommends a solution which includes development of a portable specification structure and vocabulary for data exchange. Both the specifications and requirements matrix will be available to users on a standalone PC or via a client-server network connection using SQL or ODBC queries. The Requirements Management Assistant (RMA) will also include tools for building new specifications and publishing hardcopy documents from the database which use Microsoft Windows object Linking and Embedding (OLE) technology.
