Phase I of our proposed effort will define interactive courseware capabilities and identify known performance limitations of existing commercial off-the-shelf software packages. The focus of our effort will be on research and development of authoring aids to conceptualize an instructional set of software tools that permit the presentation of interactive training for computer-based technical instruction. The proposed model will consist of an automated instructional course for an audience with minimal or no computer skills. We will examine various software tools and military training techniques that may be employed to design and develop an effective course in basic corrosion control and prevention. The results of this effort will include reports on the evaluation of existing military training programs, devices and procedures. We will select, discuss and recommend potential tools and techniques to develop a detailed computer-based training implementation guideline. This implementation plan will be utilized and tested in our proposed phase II effort, ultimately resulting in the delivery of a state-of-the-art prototype corrosion control training model
