The proposed research will demonstrate the feasibility of installing an ROI wiring system on a component of the V-22 aircraft. The research consists of an engineering analysis to demonstrate the advantages of ROI versus conventional wiring. The engineering analysis will systematically examine important parameters for wiring cost and performance to compare ROI and conventional systems.

Flexible automated manufacturing cells are to be developed to produce ROI wiring harnesses and systems by the use of programmable robotics and changeable end point manipulators and gippers. The thrust is to develop a highly consistent, yet versatile manufacturing process geared to guide changeover with repetitive accuracy to handle various wiring harnesses in an automated mode. The intent is to develop handling techniques, methods and processes to completely automate ROI harnesses to support major programs such as the V-22 Osprey.
