The task of monitoring technology developments and effecting their transition requires the organization of data and the assessment of data interrelationships. A Management Information System (MIS) can provide relief from this labor intensive task and aid IUSS technology managers in the evaluation of technology transition opportunities. The goal of the intelligent RDT&E MIS is to develop a system to automate technology data retrieval, analysis and insertion assessment. To accomplish this task, an expert system will be developed to manage a Database Management System (DBMS), project management software and graphics packages. The design will apply the expert system to direct intelligent interaction between the technology manager and the database. A request by the user for IUSS information will initialize the application of rules in the expert system and generate a search for information in the database. Once data is retrieved, it is analyzed for relevance, evaluated for possible insertion potential and presented in graphical form to the user.
