An integrated software package will be developed to predict the engineering properties of polymers used as matrix resins in aerospace composites. The software is built upon a nonlinear visco-elastic constitutive equation that acknowledges the fundamental deformation processes. The constitutive equation redicts the complete stress-strain behavior including yield for glassy polymers in arbitrary, time-dependent, three-dimensional deformation fields. The objective of this project will be to develop an efficient, robust, and user friendly code that can assist polymer scientists and engineers in developing new resins for advanced aerospace applications.

Potential Commercial Applications:
The software will enable order of magnitude reduction in the time and expense required to develop and/or evaluate new polymers for engineering applications.STATUS: Phase I Only
