Counterfeiting activities for integrated circuits are a growing problem that affects the defense supply system. We are proposing a novel anti-counterfeiting method for IC packages of all shapes and materials that can protect against relabeling, delidding and outright copying. The approach is a novel application of the NanoEncryption platform which has been successfully commercialized for the protection of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. The underlying principle is a proprietary nano-embossing method that transfers covert and forensic features onto each IC. To protect the technology from misuse, NanoInk has implemented a closed logistics chain for all security goods that are sent to IC manufacturers. NanoEncryption allows for fast field authentication with simple means while also providing deep forensic capabilities with a 24 hour turn-around.
