The intent of this project is to improve the radiation hardness of the optical light source and the LiNbO3 integrated optical chip (IOC) to meet the fiber optic gyro (FOG) system objectives for scale factor error (long-term): < 10 ppm and bias drift stability: < 0.001 deg/hr under a total dose: > 300 kRads (Si). This will be accomplished by developing superluminescent LED (SLD) broadband sources with ultra-high temperature stability and IOC chips with increased radiation resistance through use of doped waveguides and proprietary buffer layer coatings.
