This proposal addresses the reduction of false alarms and increase in speed of ATR of missiles with reduction of decoy/debris return, by transmit signal design using a matched envelope frequency-time packet signal (MAP) - the carrier of which is to be identified - and using a priori information. In Phase I, simulations will quantify S/N and ATR speed enhancement and a detailed system design. Phase II addresses hardware prototype fabrication.Anticipated Benefits/Commercial Applications: Fast ATR discrimination of missiles from decoys/debris. Commercial air radars with clutter mitigation in presence of known target/classes of targets. "Selective attention" for locating target/class. Increased resolution for geophysical GPRs.

Phase II

Contract Number: N00178-02-C-3106
Start Date: 9/16/02    Completed: 9/15/04
Phase II year
2002
Phase II Amount
$1,358,435
This Phase II proposal addresses the hardware implementation of a sensor/radar transmitting a target-matched adaptive packet signal (MAP) defined over the time and frequency domains and permitting ultrahigh resolution, high signal-to-noise and clutter-reduced detection of designated targets. The goal of the proposal is to modify the subcontractor's, Raytheon's, testbed and demonstrate selective identification of missiles/targets using a priori knowledge with detection performance superior to chirped and unmatched signal systems
