The need for a higher power radar system has been developing over the past several years and it has become apparent that cooled power conversion systems will provide significant benefits in system size, weight, and transportability. This proposal addresses a electronics cooling system for the power electronics specifically tailored to the temperature, power, and environmental requirements of such radar systems. The cooling system design and sub-scale proof of principle will be accomplished in phase 1. High power density, high efficiency power conversion electronics are currently under construction by American Superconductor under an existing contract. Phase 11 of the proposed program will provide a cooling system directly applicable to these electronics.
