This effort focuses on development of heterodyne techniques and devices that will improve: (a) precision manufacturing machines, and (b) TMD defense systems. Use of hardware and development of processes suitable for industrial products are emphasized in the proposed program. This approach will reduce costs and enhance manufacturing for commercial and military markets. The shorter wavelength, e.g., 1 um, spectral region is emphasized in this Phase 1 effort because this satisfies many near-term applications. The techniques and processes proposed are applicable to other wavelengths, e.g., 1O um, that are also suitable for manufacturing and theater missile defenses. This development program will provide capable, low cost sensors for manufacturing and technology for theater missile defense. Methods devised and hardware developed will be applicable to industrial and military applications. Proposed work will result in systems and subsystems for markets in commercial and defense sectors.
